Defining Project Strategy

What is project strategy?

Project Strategy is high-level plan that outlines the resources, plans, and other elements required to complete a project.

Here are two ways we can view project strategy:

From an organizational perspective:

Overall, your organization, company, or brand should have a streamlined process for planning, organizing, and executing projects.

Here’s what you need to be thinking about when establishing a project strategy for your organization:

  • Ensuring projects align with strategic goals/business objectives

    • Standardizing/creating standard operating procedures

    • Utilizing a project management/work management tool

    • Decide what projects to take on

From a project level perspective:

  • All successful projects start and end with strategy. A project strategy is your plan and tools to complete a project.

  • Determine your project approach: waterfall, agile, or hybrid

    • Get Specific with Goalsetting: S.M.A.R.T. /OKRs

    • Define your communication strategy

    • Creating your risk management strategy

    • Create your team operations plan
